A small tool, made properly

Name QR is an independent product operated from Middletown, Delaware. We build and maintain one thing: a fast, free QR code generator that runs in your browser and hands you a finished file without asking who you are.

Why it is free

Generating a static QR code costs us almost nothing. The encoding happens on your device using a well-established open-source library, so there is no per-code server cost to recover and no reason to meter you. We would rather be the tool you bookmark and recommend than the one that emails you three times about an upgrade.

In future we plan to offer optional paid features for teams who need editable dynamic QR codes, scan analytics and shared workspaces. The free static generator on this site will stay free and will not be degraded to make those plans look better.

Static codes, and what that means for you

Every code produced here is static: the destination is encoded directly in the pattern. There is no shortener, no tracking hop and no dependency on us being online. The upside is permanence and privacy. The trade-off is that you cannot change the destination after printing — if you expect to, point the code at a URL you control so you can update the redirect yourself.

Privacy is a design decision, not a policy page

The content you type into the generator — a WiFi password, a client's phone number, an unlisted link — is turned into a QR code locally. It is not sent to a server, not written to a database and not logged. Read the full detail in our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.

How we think about quality

• Codes are generated to the ISO/IEC 18004 QR standard with sensible error correction.
• Downloads are unbranded, unwatermarked and free for commercial use.
• The site is built mobile-first and kept deliberately light so it loads fast on cellular.
• We publish the same tool to everyone — there is no feature-limited free tier.

What is next

The roadmap is short and honest: accounts for people who want to save and revisit codes, dynamic codes you can edit after printing, scan analytics, and paid plans for teams. None of it changes what is on the home page today.
